You may have heard about the Pareto principle before, which states that 20% of the actions lead to 80% of the results. Applied to education and especially online teaching, what 20% of the actions and activities we do are effective and beneficial to our students? What 20% of what we do has a positive outcome?
If we apply the 80/20 rule to our teaching practices, we should be focusing on the few efficient tasks that will generate the most meaningful results and have the most impact on our students learning.
As educators, we need to be kind to ourselves and remember that we can’t do it all, but if we focus our energy on what works and brings positive outcomes, we can help our students improve and better themselves.
Thoughts: what works best in your teaching practice? How can you be more efficient without spending more energy and time?
